Final Poster advertisement

Our advertisement poster for our digi-pack  goes straight to the point with whats on our digi pack  which appeals to an audience. Knowing exactly what they will be getting for their money and in an easy and informative way. We have also included an oppinion a well know tv channel 'MTV' and also information for a facebook page where fans are ale to follow keke j and what she gets up into in the music world.

I chose a couple of different fonts that stood out and were different from the genreal ones like Arial and calibri. This was so it was unique from other posters and also attracts the audience and fits the style of our poster. I put them in different colors to make different sections to the advertisement so all the text is read.

First i made the photograph Black & white but then decided it was to predictable as our album cover image is lack & white. So i tinted the B&W to a more yellow color giving it more of a vintage edge to it.

Evaluation\

  1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Our media product uses, develop and challenges forms and conventions of a real media product for a few reasons. Firtsly we have gained inspitation from other videos and artist on the market, we watched Destiny Childs music video for the song 'Girl.' After watching the video, it showed our group that we could do a similar narrative as it fits in with our genre of our chosen song 'Crush' by keke J, and also has the theme of love and lost in both the inspiration video and also our ideas for our music video. Our video contains a range of shots but focussing mainly on extreme and mid clos ups, a typical convention of a music video. Weused wuite alot of close ups to show off the artists strong emotion in the video fitting the facial expreesion with the lyrics of the song and advertising the artist themselves. Like most other videos, our product had a narrative showing the key points of the storyline and linking the lyrics of the song, to the imagery shown. The genre of our product is a female solo artist pitching her feelings or oppinions through her music. The pace of the footage and how it's been cut between the lyrics fits well with the video as it flows well with the speed of the music. For example our video uses slow cuts between each clip as our song is quite slow, however if it was a more upbeat song like rock the cuts be quick and snappy. Music videos similar to ours show close ups of the group/ Artist face throughout the video really connecting with the audience and showing them the style and what she wants the audience to be feeling. I also find that listening to songs puts you in moods depending on the genre.

2.   How effective is the combination of your main product & Ancillary texts?

From working on our music video and then starting our ancillary products, we had the same theme ideas throughtout.  For our Digi-pack front cover we used a close up of the artist showing her in a similar location to what she was in the video. We edited the photograph in Black & White the same as our studio footage. Using different fonts than the genreal ones, showing a more creative side to the production and an eye catching cover standing out to the target audience. I think our Magazine advertisement shows clearly to the reader whats included in the digi-pack package. It shows a way to find out more and to followe keke j online. I think the advertisement potrays the artist as being quite fun because of the brighter colours used on the poster and also showing her songs may be about love because of the lips image and her facial expression. I think all three of the products work well together as a promotion package because of their similarities and appeal to our audience. Our target audience of young female teenagers may like it because it's simple and the genre of love and boys. It would most likely appeal to them because when girls become teenagers they have alot more emotions and can relate to keke J and her song lyrics.

3.  What have you learnt from the audience feedback?

Overall i beleive our group has learnt quite alot from other people's feedback. When recieveing feedback we got both good and bad points. Most people thought that our performance, lip sync, shots and affects were really good. However some people thought that we could have included more locations, a wider range of close ups from different angles and that the narrative was unclear. When looking back at our rough cut we felt our main aim was to focus on adding alot my angles of shots between both performance an dthe narrative. we chose a song that was over four minutes long and when showinf our rought cut we had edited it up to one minute and people thought it wasnt going anywhere. So in order to stop this from happening in our final music video, we decided to cut it down to just over three minutes so people didnt get bored or confused about our narrative and also being able to introduce it alot quicker. When showing out final music video we found that the positives overtook the negatives. Many were the same as before and they liked the fact that we changed some parts to black & white and shortedned the fotage so it didn't drag. We found that the majority of people were pleased with what we had chnaged. However some poeple still thought there could have been more locations, but as a group we dedcided not too as we felt we had enough.our teacher also said that we just have involved a narrative of a guy however when watching the final product he thought that we made the decission not to also.

3.  How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and     evaluation stages?

The blogger, photoshop and final cut were all important in helping us with our media products all in different ways. Having the blooger was great as we were able to write a plan for each lesson and writing aims along the way, also being able to show ourselves and others what our ideas and plan are for our music video. Photoshop was a help when we wanted to do editing, however we decided to use something different called Gimp to edit our products as we found it easier to use and more easy to work with. Having the advantage of being able to use HD video cameras, we were able to do clear shots without picelated footage. We also used a school SLR digital camera for our photoshoots for our ancillary products as we believe we were able to get a clearer and more professional look to the photograph.

Screen shots 'Destiny childs- girl music video'

This shot was chosen from the video as it gives the audience knowledge of the location for the video. we chose a cafe also for one of our narrative locations because this where we showed the feelings and emotions of keke j with her friends comforting her.

I took this snapshot from the video because its good close up of Beyonce singing with little spacearound her. This is similar to one of our shots as we used a similar shot but from the side on and had little space either side of the artist.

Even though its been edited i black and white i think it still looks similar and has the same effect on the video, it shows her facial expressions and a plain background.

Here you can see that they've shown the girl group hugging creating a theme of friendship and happiness.

In our music video we tried to show off the same atmosphere by having them all meeting up together for a drink and talking about the main girls crush.

We showed the girls individually saying hello but them becoming a group when they all sit down. We chose to shoot a medium long shot showing half their bodies so its not too far away and not visible in what was going on.

We chose these screen shots as we may use some of them for our commentary video to exaplain our answers. we chose takes from the cafe to show similar environment in our music video and showing close ups of Beyonce's face. We chose these particular ones as they have similarities to some of our shots showing the importance of close ups in a video. We will use some of these snapshots from the video to put over our commentary so whilst one of us is talking the audience will have more of an idea of what they are explaining.

Album cover

I really like the Leona Lewis album cover as its simple yet stands out because of the way she looks. it has a color theme of brown because of her hair, eyes and makeup all fitting together. Having her making eye contact directly at the camera makes a stronger image rather than having her turning away. Also, not having her smiling or looking too sad shows to the audience what type of music it's going to be and attracting a certain target audience. The text is also quite simple, basic Ariel text all in capitals, simple but still stand out above the image.

This Duffy album cover is very different from the first one. Its in black and white creating an older and vintage look to the cover. Her clothing seems to be black and white also, having the white stripe on the jacket makes Duffy stand out more from the landscape behind. The text uses two different fonts, the artists name looks like its been signed by her and the bock writing fir the name of her single.

I really like this Album Cover as there is a good color scheme and strong photograph. The dark purple and brown fits well together, the writing in the purple matches with Demi Lovato's lipstick and hair. the accessories of rings on her hands stand out and creates a more feminine touch.

This album cover really stands out as everything is defined and in place. Her hair covering one eye having a perfect curve position and not one hair out of place. how the text covers this part of the hair i think creates a good affect and looks different from other album covers.

This Ellie Golding Album cover fits in with the theme of the name of the album 'Lights.' The way the writing has been edited to look like there lights lighting up in the letters and how it carry's on up towards the image of Ellie Golding with some of her hair glittering gold, also the same.

Most of these Album covers are close ups just showing the Artist face which i think we would want to do for our Digipack cover. Then it shows that it's purely just about the single artist and the way its show showing off their facial expression.

Analysis of students work

http://www.youtube.com/user/longroadmediastudies#p/c/90B97A72C742C076/17/rm2p9fgOeEs

Location

I really like this location as its completely different from other videos that i have been watching. Its more eye catching with the grafitti and run down look aout teh place. It creates a sense of loneliness in the video which suggests that this is the couple acting in the video. It seems abandoned and away from teh main of the city, showing taht teh locationwas thought about well and the shots are purely based on each chracter and their surroundings. And it also looks like a real music videos choice of location.

Coastumes

I thought overall teh costumes were good as they fitted in with the mood of the song. They were not over the top like they are in more up beat songs, they were simple yet noticale to the audience. However i do thinkthere could have been a costume change from the girl when she is being filmed in a different part of the location so she had 2 cosumes like the male, on teh other hand this could have een done so it looks like just one day instead of showing timepassing in thair music video.

Effects

I really like the way they have shown time passing quickly y speeding up teh footage of themwalking around through the arch ways and mving spaces on the sofa. I think its fits in with the music well when there is no singing and just generally looks good and effective to me the audience. Another effect, where there rewind the footage of them spray painting the wall, it creates more of a narrative to the story with what they write without having to have the narrative actualy being shown by the chracters acting it out.

Filming/ Shots

I think the music video does an excellent jo of showing off the location to the audience, by showing long shots and close ups of parts of the place with no people. Showing empty food wrappes, drink bottles, wheel of a bike, missing flooroards and bits of rubish really sets the scene and gives off ideas about the music video itself and the atmousphere they were trying to potray. Theres a take where boteh chracters sit in a archway individually one at a time, th girl sitting teh middle then the boy sitting more to the left. They fade one in as the other is fading out which i thinklooks rea;lly good asit suggests that there not there together yet there singing to each other.

Lip singing

It looked like they had learnt the song well as tehy seemed to know the words and it fitted well with the footage.

Music video Anlysis

JoJo- Disaster Music video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9rGNfJmXRc&ob=av2n&noredirect=1

This music video shows both love and anger within the lyrics and narrative. There are signs of attitude in the video and also sadness creating ups and downs thrughut the narrative and performance.

The performance side of the music video is mainly shot in close ups, extreme close ups and medium close up. We decieded to the same as we think it shows more emotions and facial expressions from the artist creating more realistic atmosphere of the video.

It also uses short and snappy takes from the narrative point of view showing the main points that the audience would want to see so we know exactly what is going on and dont get confused with the storyline.

The Start of Editing

We started editing our music video after we shot all the footage for it. We were pleased with how much footage we got as it made it easy to pick. We decided that the video should be fairly fast paced and so did a lot of cuts between two takes. We have mixed all our locations up to keep the video interesting for the audience to watch. We put in a black and white background on the green screen shots which seems to have worked well, it also makes it interesting to watch and identifies the fact it's not the narrative. We have taken the feedback from class mates and are working on improving the video to make it more understandable.

Feedback from our draft

Positive Feedback:
-Good Performance
- Good use of close-ups
-Nice black and white
-Good pace of clips
-Nice range of footage
-Good lip sync

Negative Feedback:
-Didn't see where the narrative was going
-Needed more location
-Got too pacy at the end
-Close ups where at the same range

Day 3

For our studio part of our music video we filmed in the green room as we are going to change the background to the color black so its purely focused on keke (Catherine) and her singing. In the green room we used two lights, one focused on the green wall and one on  Catherine so there was no reflection off green on catherine.

We Mainly had close ups of Catherine from the sides and front so its not one shot all the way through. We didn't want to have too much space within each shot as its more about the lip singing in these parts of the filming.

We had to make sure that the lights were in the right position in every shot as sometimes our fottage was too bright and reflected alot of light onto catherines face.

October 11th Fimling

Day 2

Today we decided to film footage near the river in Chesterton as it had good natural sunlight and was not busy with people creating a feeling of loneliness for keke (Catherine). Rhian filmed close ups of Catherine in different locations showing a lot of movement in the video as we decided we wanted quite a few different locations so it wasn't fully based on the studio part of our music video. Hearing feedback from Catherine and Rhian i believe that it went very well as the natural lighting was a good affect to the footage filmed and was peaceful.

This evening of filming was also for a narrative part of our music video. Today we filmed the sleepover part of the narrative where its more relaxed because of where we are and our costume choices. We stuck with our brown and beige color scheme that we had in the cafe and bought it into the living room also. in the room we had dark brown leather sofa for our seating area, we had a wooden table in the center of the room matching the one in the cafe. we also had white candles and flower petals on the table to give it more of a welcoming image towards the audience.

We faced quite a big problem towards the end of the end of the evening when filming this part of our footage as our battery was very low so we had to know exactly what we were going to film and work around the amount of filming time we had left.

October 10th Filming

Day 1

This was our day for shooting the narrative part in cafe Nero for our music video. We planned to shoot a scene where keke's friends meet up with her to talk to her about her and her boyfriend as she is upset in this scene. We decided to do medium close ups of all three us talking together to represent friendship within the group. We then shot close ups of each character (Catherine, Katie & Rhian) showing their facial expressions and feelings towards KeKe (Catherine).

Overall the filming went well we decided however it didn't come without its problems. Even though we had emailed quite a few cafe's we were still unable to film when approaching them as they needed permission from head office for us to be able to film on their premises. We then tried cafe Nero in the town center near the market center and they let us film in their premises under the conditions that we do not disturb and have respect for the other customers.

We were filming for 2 hours which we planned as we knew the upstairs part of the cafe shut at 6pm so we made sure that we were going to fit all the footage into this day as we may not have another opportunity to film here again.

The color scheme of  the cafe was perfect as they have dark brown leather chairs that suggest wealth and upmarket dining. Also have more sophisticated images in the background of places rather than your general cafe images of a coffee mug or machine.
